What is the difference between SLS (Selective Laser Sintering) vs. FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) 3D print methods?The baseplates we offer are SLS 3D printed out of Nylon 12 to be very durable and impact resistant. A drop test video can be found here: DURABILITY DROP TEST - MC9 Baseplate. The sleeves we offer are constructed using FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) out of Polylite PLA PRO. This allows a very dimensionally accurate and durable part at a lower price than SLS printing. These are not as durable as our baseplates, but have a better chance of surviving harsh impacts because the sleeve is able to slide up and down the magazine body, absorbing impact forces. For the primary differences between these two methods of 3D printing, please see this explanation: FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) printing extrudes melted plastic filament layer by layer, making it suitable for simple designs and rapid prototyping, while SLS (Selective Laser Sintering) uses a laser to fuse powder particles together, allowing for more complex geometries and high-strength parts, but usually at a higher cost and requiring more post-processing; the key difference lies in the material delivery method, with FDM using a filament and SLS using a powder bed, leading to variations in surface finish, build accuracy, and design flexibility depending on the application. What material are the sleeves made out of?The MC9 and MC9L/LS sleeves we make are printed out of Polymaker PLA PRO filament.
